Man fined £180 for taking off his shoes and throwing them at police station window

A man fled from officers after taking his shoes off and throwing them at the windows of a police station.

The bizarre incident happened shortly after 8am on Friday, August 21, when 35-year-old Anthony Cahill took off his shoes and threw them at the station window before shouting obscenities.

Cahill, from Rockford Avenue, Southdene, is then said to have made off into Kirkby market before being arrested by officers.

Cahill pleaded guilty to the public order offence, and fined £60 and ordered to pay costs of £119.

After police posted about the incident on social media, a mystified commenter posted: “Someone was throwing there [sic] shoes at the police windows ??”.

Knowsley Police replied that the man had done so, adding: “We were slightly surprised also. [shrug emoji]”

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We have charged a 35 year-old man with a S5 public order offence.

"Anthony Cahill, of Rockford Avenue, Southdene, Kirkby, was charged following an incident in Kirkby market on 21st August.

"He pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

"He was fined £60 and order to pay costs of £119."
