A man claims to have found a slug in the food that he ordered from a local takeaway.
Gareth Thomas, from St Helens, said he ordered a munchie box from Hot Stuff, on Duke Street, and was ‘shocked’ to see the creature on his salad.
After already eating a fair bit of the meal, Gareth said the slug ‘popped up’ out of nowhere from under the salad.

The 32-year-old told the ECHO: “I was eating it watching TV and this little friend popped up.
“I was shocked, it went straight in the bin when I spotted that, I’d had a bit of the doner meat, chips and I was eating the salad and that's when it popped up.”
Gareth said he hopes he doesn’t now get ill, he added: “I'm just hoping that I’m not unwell now, because I'm a team leader carer and I’m on a 48 hour shift tomorrow.”
He says that he doesn’t get squeamish easily but if someone else had received the meal it could have ‘knocked them sick.’
He threw the meal straight in the bin and made himself cheese on toast instead.
While finding the slug didn’t kill his appetite it has put him off from ever ordering from there again.
Gareth said: “It went straight in the bin and I had to make cheese on toast instead.
He said: “If it was someone else, they just could have been knocked sick, but thankfully I’m not massively squeamish.
“What’s bothered me more is that when I rang to tell them they just put the phone down on me and didn’t offer me any more food or a refund.
“I will never order there again, I just won't go to that place. It's put me off.
“I love my food so I can't stop eating but I won't order there again.”
The ECHO approached Hot Stuff but they declined to comment.
Gareth shared the picture of the slug in his food in a St Helens Facebook group and users were horrified.
One user said: “Omg I would have died.”
Another added: “How awful I'd complain, if you had not noticed that you may have become very ill.”
A third said: “I've seen three different takeaways with slugs in them recently, I think I'll stick to home cooking for a bit.”
And someone else said: “All jokes aside it's not good. Hopefully, they will compensate but not with food.”
