A family are spreading some happiness after finding a smiley emoji face in a jar of Marmite.
Builder Kenny Streete, 38, was the first to notice the image, on the underside of the lid, as he was putting the yeast spread on his kids' toast.
The dad-of-two said: “I was doing a round of toast and Marmite for supper after we’d watched a movie when I put the lid down and saw a smiley face staring up at me.
“I thought I was going crazy but when I asked my wife and kids to come and have a look they saw it too. My daughter said it looked like a smiley emoji.
“It certainly raised a smile when I WhatsApped it to our family and friends.
“At a time when people are feeling a bit glum, it’s cheered everyone up.”
Kenny, of Rothbury, Northumberland, spotted the smiley image after making toast for his wife Maggie, 40, and their two daughters Bea, ten, and Ruby, eight, on Saturday night.
His wife Maggie, a shop worker, added: “I thought it was another one of Kenny’s daft jokes when he told me the Marmite was smiling at him but when I saw it for myself I burst out laughing.
“The kids are still eating it, but we’ve kept the lid to give our friends a giggle.”
