Man finds 21-year-old can of Dutch Gold while cleaning out attic and everyone is giving him the same advice

An Irish man doing a clean of his attic found a historical relic - when he unearthed a 21-year-old can of Dutch Gold.

The 'nectar of the gods', as it is known in some regions, first hit Irish shelves in 1995 and since that date has seen thousands of horrific hangovers for those who consume a can or twelve from a bag.

And that's just with cans that are in date.

Which leads us to the Irish Reddit page.

One user, johndoe86888, took to the popular channel on Thursday evening to tell of his incredible find.

He had been cleaning out his attic and while doing so unearthed a can of the lager that had an expiry date of 2000.

He explained: "To clarify it was my brothers who was doing the leaving cert at the time! Hence why its stashed in the attic.

"Whilst sitting/crouching in the attic I sat on a burst one that smelled like Sambuca, leaked all down my craic."

And look, we've all been there.

The majority of the comments were fascinated by his discovery.

One user noted that Dutch "Improves with age they say. Should be almost drinkable."

While another pointed out: "That cans old enough to drink itself."

A fair few urged John to take a sup of the stuff to see how two decade old beer tastes.

One brilliant post in response though, gave John some sage advice: "Unfortunately you won't be able to keep it - Archaeological objects found in Ireland are claimable as State property under the terms of the National Monuments Acts, 1930 to 2014."
