Man films speeding light in skies over Leeds as NASA's SpaceX rocket makes journey to ISS

This video captures the incredible moment a bright line is seen soaring through the night sky in Leeds, believed to be NASA's SpaceX rocket SpaceX rocket Crew Dragon heading towards the International Space Station (ISS).

Millions worldwide the historic launch on Saturday, when the first astronauts in nine years were blasted into space from US soil.

And Leeds resident Tony Wildgoose caught what he believed to be the rocket on camera as it shot over Yorkshire.

Tony filmed the clip from his home in the Whinmoor/ Skelton Woods area of Leeds at 10.16pm - pretty much bang on the time the UK was given its best chance of seeing it.

As he wasn't armed with a telescope though, he wasn't sure if the bright light was in fact the ISS itself - which has been the response from some people to the video on social media.

Either way, it looks spectacular!

Nasa launches US astronauts into space on SpaceX rocket

NASA worked with SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, which has become the first private company to send humans into space.

Rocket Crew Dragon took off at 8.22pm our time with a 19-hour journey to reach the International Space Station (ISS).

The Demo-2 mission saw Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley join Nasa's Chris Cassidy and Russia's Anatoli Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner aboard the ISS.

It was advised that 10.15pm on Saturday was the best time to see it.

You can keep tracking the mission, using the Heavens Above website. That will give you sighting times for rockets and the ISS from your location.

According to Nasa, the aim of the mission is to show SpaceX's ability to ferry astronauts to the space station and back safely.
