Man fights for his life after being airlifted to hospital from horror crash

A man who was airlifted to hospital after a crash in Wirral remains in a critical condition.

Birkenhead Road was closed in both directions after the crash between a BMW and a Nissan Note on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident which happened on Willowbrow Road at around 2.45pm.

Three people were injured and one person was left trapped inside each car.

They were rescued by fire crews who used cutting equipment to carry out roof removals of both vehicles.

Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO this morning that the driver of the Nissan, a 65-year-old man, was taken to hospital by air ambulance, where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the BMW suffered a leg injury during the crash, while a passenger suffered slight injuries.

Road closures were put in place on Willowbrow Road, Willow Lane, Birkenhead Road, Willaston Road and Benty Heath Road at around 4.50pm on Monday.
