Man fighting for life in hospital after violent brawl at Port Glasgow train station

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after an ‘altercation’ at a Scots train station.

Police were called to the scene at Woodhall Railway Station in Port Glasgow at around 10.20pm on Thursday.

Two men, aged 25 and 30, were taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

The 30-year-old was later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A probe has been launched by police who remained at the travel hub on Friday morning as their enquiries remained ‘ongoing’.

ScotRail announced that early morning services would not be stopping at the station and passengers should travel from Port Glasgow instead.

They tweeted: “Due to an earlier Police incident Woodhall station remains closed to the public this morning.

“Any passengers travelling from Woodhall are advised to travel from Port Glasgow.”

Police Scotland confirmed they were called to the scene on Thursday night.

A spokesperson said: "Around 10.20pm on Thursday, 1 October, 2020, officers were called to Woodhall Railway Station in Port Glasgow following a report of an altercation.

“Two men, aged 25 and 30, were taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the 30-year-old was subsequently transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he is described as being in a critical but stable condition.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 3658 of 1 October."
