Man fighting for life in hospital after police called to house in Wigan

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after police were called to a house in Wigan.

Officers were called to the property in St Malo Road at around 7.30am this morning (Thursday, October 8) after receiving a report of concern for welfare.

A male was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

It is understood that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a number of police cars and an ambulance on the residential street, which is north of the town centre.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called at around 7.30am this morning (Thursday 8 October 2020) to a report of concern for welfare at a property on St Malo Road, Wigan.

"A male was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added: "We attended a private address in St Malo Road at about 7.40am.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene and took one person to hospital."
