Man fighting for life in Glasgow hospital after police alerted to reports of 'serious assault'

A man is in critical condition at a Glasgow hospital following reports of a serious assault in Rutherglen.

Police and emergency services were alerted to the scene on Farmeloan Road after the alarm was raised around 12:05am this morning (October 21), the Daily Record reports.

The 51-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Medics describe his condition as critical.

Farmeloan Road is currently closed in both directions between Cambuslang Road and the B768 as police enquiries into the incident continue.

Police have confirmed that an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 12.05am on Thursday, 21 October, 2021, following a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.

"Emergency services attended and a 51-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

"An 18-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing."
