Man fighting for life following smash between scooter and car

A man is fighting for his life after coming off his scooter in a crash.

Police were called to Poolstock Lane, Wigan, at 6.30pm yesterday (Saturday July 18) following reports of a collision between a petrol scooter and a silver Ford Galaxy.

The scooter rider - a 53-year-old man - has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car remained at the scene to speak to police.

No arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

PC Neil Pennington, of Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man is currently fighting for his life in hospital after yesterday’s collision and our thoughts are very much with him and his family as he receives treatment.

“We’re working hard to piece together the circumstances surrounding this incident and are asking any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

“If you have dash-cam footage of either vehicle in the area around the time of the collision, please give us a call as it could really assist with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should call GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 846 4741 quoting incident number 2714 of 18/07/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
