Two young men were seriously hurt - with one left fighting for his life - following a horror crash in Tameside.

Police were called to a smash involving a motorbike and a car on Edge Lane in Droylsden at about 1.30am on Saturday (August 7).

Two men, aged 22 and 23, sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

One is described as being in a life-threatening condition.

It came about 16 hours after a serious crash on the same road, when a 78-year-old man was left seriously hurt after a crash involving a suspected drug driver.

Police said a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving, following the incident at 9.30am yesterday.

He has since been released under investigation.

Now police say people can expect an increased police presence around Edge Lane, as investigations continue.

"We're now investigating the events that led to these collisions, and the community will see an increased presence in the area.
