Man fighting for life after suffering serious head injuries after being found in Sunderland street

A man who suffered serious head injuries in Sunderland is in a critical condition in hospital.

Emergency services including the Great North Air Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Monday afternoon following reports of a disturbance at a home just off Chester Road.

Police discovered the injured man in the street and closed the road before he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

On Tuesday, Northumbria Police confirmed the man was in a "critical but stable" condition.

An investigation is under way to determine the circumstances of the disturbance and anyone with information is being asked to come forward.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 2pm on Monday we received a report of a disturbance at an address in Alexandra Court, Chester Oval, Sunderland.

“Officers attended and found a man in the street with serious head injuries.

“Officers attended and found a man in the street with serious head injuries.

"Emergency services including the air ambulance attended the scene and Chester Road was temporarily closed.

“Inquiries are ongoing into the nature of the incident.
