Man fighting for life after motorbike hits the central reservation on the M53

A man is fighting for his life after his motorbike hit the central reservation on the M53.

Emergency services were called to the crash near junction 4 of the motorway shortly after 9.20pm on Saturday, August 22.

The rider of the motorbike was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Road closures were put in place on the M53 between junctions 4 and junction 5 of the northbound carriageway.

The motorway has since been reopened according to North West Motorway Police.

In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 9.20pm, it was reported that a motorbike had collided with the central reservation near junction 4 of the M53.

"Emergency services attended and the rider of the motorbike has been taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"Road closures are in place between junctions 4 and 5 of the northbound carriageway and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting ref. 20000506200 or the Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747."
