A man is fighting for his life after coming off his moped whilst being pursued by police in Tyldsley.
The crash happened on Shuttle Street in the town, which is in the borough of Wigan, at around 4:45pm
Officers riding on off-road bikes as part of an "anti-social behaviour operation" were following a man on an off-road moped when he "failed to stop at the officer's request" Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
The man, who is in his 20s, came off the moped near Century City chip shop.
Emergency services raced to the scene, with the air ambulance seen landing nearby.
The man was rushed to hospital and is tonight in a critical condition GMP said.
The road remains closed from Henry Street to Primrose Street with a police cordon in place whilst enquiries are carried out.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Police are tonight asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

"A cordon is currently in place at the scene and we have referred the incident to the IOPC due to the police contact in the moments before this incident.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News earlier, a staff member at the Century City chip shop said: “The road is still closed and the police are still here. It happened at about 4pm.
"“It's one motorbike.
"The police were chasing the bike.”
