Before emergency services arrived a man, who asked not to be named, said he was sat on the couch when he heard a “huge bang” from outside. He told The ECHO: “I jumped out, looked up and saw what happened.

"I ran over and there was a few people there so we got the fella out of the car." It is understood the driver was given CPR at the scene by neighbours before emergency services arrived and took over.

The man added that the couple who live in the house were at home at the time of the crash, but weren't injured. In a statement from Merseyside Police a spokesperson said: "We are in the early stages of the investigation and appeal for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist us.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information which could assist the investigation, is asked to call the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747 or email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk or contact Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook quoting reference 23000620491.
