Man fighting for life after cops race to 'serious assault' in Rutherglen

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after cops raced to reports of a serious assault on a Scots street.

Emergency services raced to Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, around 12.05am on Thursday October 21 to reports of an alleged attack.

The 51-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow as his condition is currently described as critical.

Pictures from the scene show officers standing guard with a cordon in place. Forensic officers were understood to be at the scene.

A 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Spokesperson said: "Police were called around 12.05am on Thursday, 21 October, 2021, following a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.

"Emergency services attended and a 51-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

"An 18-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing."
