Man fighting for life after collapsing in street

A man is fighting for life in hospital after he collapsed on a Wirral street this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Wallasey Village after a man suffered a 'medical episode' before collapsing on Leasowe Road, Wallasey, while out walking.

An air ambulance was sent to Leasowe Road, close to the junction with Ponsenby Road, shortly after midday on Monday.

The man is understood to be in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital.

Police enquiries are ongoing and emergency services remain at the scene of the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Wallasey Village at 12.30pm today, Monday 30th March, to reports of a male pedestrian having suffered a medical episode.

"Patrols attended and the air ambulance was called to the scene. The man has been taken to hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing and emergency services remain at the scene.

"Leasowe Road is currently blocked off at the junction with Ponsenby Road."

North West Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics were called to the incident on Leasowe Road and that air ambulance attended alongside multiple ambulances.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "At 12:17 pm on Monday we were called to a medical incident on Leasowe Road.

"The air ambulance attended the scene of the incident along with two ambulances, and an advance paramedic.

"A male was taken to hospital in a critical condition."
