Man fighting for life after being stabbed in targeted attack outside Paisley polling station

A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in a targeted attack outside of a polling station in Paisley.

Police raced to Broomlands Street around 9.15am this morning and locked down the scene following the serious assault.

A 50-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Officers are treating the assault as a targeted attack and it is not related to the election.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A large emergency services presence remains at the scene.

The polling station remains open for voters.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward after enquiries established the two men were known to each other.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross from CID said: “This has been a targeted attack, with the two individuals known to each other, and one is now in a very serious condition in hospital.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack, has dash cam or CCTV footage, to get in touch via 101, quoting reference number 0666 of 6 May 21.”
