Man fighting for life after attack by stranger dressed all in black

A man has been left fighting for his life after being attacked in Bootle.

The victim, in his 40s, was on Spenser Street when he was attacked by a stranger. The male suspect was wearing all black clothing and a face covering.

He assaulted the man, causing a serious head injury, and then cycled off on the victim's bike. Police say the incident happened at around 10.40pm on Wednesday, February 8.

They confirmed the victim was taken to hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition. Officers say they are keen to speak with a potential witness, especially a taxi reported to have been on Spenser Street at around this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer said: "This was a violent assault which has left a man in hospital with a serious head injury. We simply will not stand by and allow people to harm and threaten the safety of others in our community.

"If you live on Spenser Street and either witnessed this attack or captured it on smart doorbell footage, then please get in touch. If you were driving in the Spenser Street area last night at around 10.40pm and have dashcam footage then please review it and if you see anything, including the bike or the offender, please let us know.

"We believe that a taxi driver was on Spenser Street at around this time and could be a potential witness, so if this was you, or you know who it was, please come forward. Tell us what you know about this incident and we’ll take positive action to find this offender and bring him to justice.
