Man fighting for his life in hospital after fire erupts at petrol station

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a petrol station burst into flames this evening (Tuesday).

The man, thought to be in his 30s, was airlifted to hospital in Manchester after he was engulfed in flames at Knights of Cheadle Garage, in Stoke on Trent, shortly after 5pm today.

A car also caught fire and pictures show a cloud of smoke moving across the skyline, StokeonTrent Live has reported.

Staffordshire Police released a statement saying: "A man has been seriously injured following a file at a petrol station in Cheadle.

"Police were called at 5.10pm this afternoon to reports of a man and a car on fire at Knights of Cheadle Petrol Station on The Green.

"The man has been taken to the hospital in Manchester by air ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances but believe no one else is involved."

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for a statement.
