Man fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in broad daylight on Strangeways back street

A 33-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed in broad daylight.

Police have asked people to "stay away from the area" after the "shocking incident".

The attack happened on Great Ducie Street on Cheetham Hill at around 3pm.

When emergency services arrived at the scene they found a 33-year-old man with a "serious stab wound".

He was taken to hospital with "life-threatening injuries", where he is currently being treated.

A police cordon was put in place on Mary Street and a second on a footpath near New Bridge Street.

No arrests have been made with the police investigation in its early stages tonight.

Detective Inspector Claire Moss of Greater Manchester Police said: "This is a shocking incident that has taken place in broad daylight, in one of the busiest areas of the city.

"We want to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the public, however we ask people to stay away from the area as our enquiries continue.

"We've launched a full investigation into finding out what has happened, and finding those responsible.
