Man fighting for his life after being hit by car in Gateshead

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car in Gateshead.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 9pm on Tuesday after a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a Silver VW Golf in the Low Teams area.

The 38-year-old pedestrian had suffered serious, potentially life threatening injuries in the collision on Angus Road at the junction with Chesnut Gardens.

He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition, police said.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward and help them with their investigation.

Sergeant Lee Butler of Northumbria Police 's motor patrols team, said: “This incident has left a man seriously injured in hospital and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.

“We are now trying to formulate a clear picture of those moments leading up to the collision and would encourage anyone who saw what happened or who might have information about it to come forward if you already haven’t.”
