A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being found seriously injured in a Scots street.
Emergency services raced to Gael Street in Greenock last night where they found the 44-year-old man injured.
He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow via ambulance.
Staff there have described his condition as critical.
The incident took place at about 7.15pm last night, with police now appealing for witnesses.
Detective Inspector Nikkie Wake, of Greenock CID, confirmed that they are carrying out door-to-door inquiries.
She said: "Our investigation as to how the man came about his injuries are continuing.
"Officers have been carrying out door to door enquiries and checking CCTV in the area but we would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
"If you were in the Gael Street or Jura Street area last night between 6.45 pm and 7.15 pm and saw anything that will help our investigation, then please contact police via 101 quoting reference number 3082 of 12 September, 2021.
