Man feared drowned in Loch Ness may have fallen in while 'peeing into water' as search continues

A call of nature may have cost a Polish man his life after he fell into Scotland’s most famous loch at night.

A friend on the yacht cruelly named Miss Adventure dived into the freezing waters of Loch Ness on Thursday to try to rescue him.

But he also got into trouble and was pulled from the water by rescuers while others began a desperate search for his companion, who it’s thought fell over after peeing into the water.

The man is believed to have been sailing on the boat called the Miss Adventure (Peter Jolly)

They were two of a party of four Polish nationals who had gone on the loch with two women to enjoy a day sailing from Dores beach, nine miles from Inverness.

The search went on until darkness defeated the emergency services and volunteers.

It resumed yesterday morning but as the year round temperature of the country’s deepest loch is 5C, cramp can quickly set in and drag a person under.

A police investigation has begun and it is likely a fatal accident inquiry will be held.

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 6.50pm on Thursday, emergency services were made aware of two men having fallen from a boat into Loch Ness near Dores Bay.

"One man has been rescued and a search is currently ongoing for the other.”
