An 84-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday in northwest suburban Elk Grove Village.

The man was in the roadway about 8:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of South Arlington Heights Road when he was struck by a 2010 Honda Odyssey, according to Elk Grove Village Police Deputy Chief Michael Gaspari, who said there was no crosswalk in the area.

The driver of the minivan, a 45-year-old woman from Arlington Heights, immediately stopped and called 911, Gaspari said.

Paramedics responded and took the 84-year-old Elk Grove Village resident to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, where he was pronounced shortly after, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived just east of where he was struck, Gaspari.

An autopsy released Thursday found he died of multiple injuries from the crash, the medical examiner’s office said. The death was ruled accidental.

No citations have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing, Gaspari said.
