Sydney crime figure killed in shooting

A Sydney underworld figure has been shot and killed on a suburban street in Sydney's west, six years after his brother suffered a similar fate.

Amar Kettule was found with gunshot wounds after reports of a shooting on William Street at Fairfield about 2.40am on Sunday.

The 34-year-old died at the scene despite efforts from emergency services to revive him, NSW Police said.

Detective Acting Superintendent Glen Fitzgerald said the victim was well known to police.

Whether the shooting was linked to organised crime would form part of the police investigation, the Fairfield City police commander said.

"We believe the attack to be targeted. He is well known to police."

"This is a violent attack on a suburban street, and it's totally unacceptable behaviour."

Kettule's younger brother Dyllan, 19, was shot dead outside his girlfriend's apartment block in Canley Vale in January 2014.

A crime scene was established and sections of William Street and Harris Street were closed.
