Man fatally shot in Heart of Chicago: police

A 26-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in the Heart of Chicago on the Near West Side.

Alberto Ponce was in the 2200 block of West Cullerton Street about 9:15 a.m. when someone opened fire, striking him multiple times, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he later died, authorities said. Ponce lived in Heart of Chicago.

An autopsy conducted Sunday ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

The specific details of the shooting remain under investigation, police said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
