A 58-year-old man was killed in a shooting early Friday in Bronzeville on the South Side.

He was driving a Volvo sedan about 3:15 a.m. in the 4700 block of South King Drive when someone fired shots, and he was struck in the neck, Chicago police said. The man then drove into a vacant lot and crashed in an alley.

He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as 58-year-old Patrick Patterson. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide, saying he died of his injuries.

Police initially said Patterson was 62 years old.

No one is in custody as Area One detectives investigate.
