Man falls off cliff in horror Dublin incident but is SAVED by hero rescue crew

A Dublin man is very lucky to be alive this morning after falling off a cliff in a horror incident on Tuesday night.

Skerries RNLI Search and Rescue crew were in the middle of attending to one minor call when they were re-tasked to Balbriggan to help with the massive, life-or-death operation.

A local group began monitoring the rescue on Facebook Live where people feared that the victim in trouble would be found dead by the crew members.

But upon the arrival of the Skerries RNLI lifeboat, the crew thankfully could see a paramedic from Rescue R116 already with the casualty who was carrying out the appropriate care.

The lifeboat was positioned as close to the shore as possible and a member of crew swam ashore to assist with the rescue.

The brave swimmer was joined by more heroic members of the Skerries Coast Guard unit and Gardai who successfully brought the man to shore - albeit while fighting against a force two southerly wind with a slight sea swell.

The man was carefully transferred onto a stretcher before being airlifted to Beaumont hospital where he is still recovering from the frightening ordeal.

Press Officer for Skerries RNLI, Gerry Canning said: "This turned into a long evening for all the rescue services involved.

"Thankfully it was a good outcome and another great example of how well all the services work together to help anyone in distress."

He added: "After the operation, the lifeboat then collected the crew member from shore and returned to the station where the lifeboat, lifeboat station and all equipment were sanitized and made ready for service."

A spokesman for Gardai said: "We attended the scene of an incident in Balbriggan, Dublin on the 1 September at approximately 9:00pm."

He added: "A male was taken to Beaumont Hospital and no further information is available at this time."
