Man falls from hospital car park after being sectioned

A man who fell from the second floor of a hospital car-park after being sectioned remains in a serious condition.

The patient, who had been sectioned at Aintree University Hospital , was circulated as missing for several weeks before the incident, on June 20.

A friend, who contacted the ECHO , said: "It is so sad, he had been in a bad way for a long time but I don't know how this could have happened after he was sectioned."

It is understood the man, in his late 40s, was initially kept in intensive care in a critical condition but has moved to a critical care ward.

His friend described how he had broken "a lot of bones" in the fall.

The man was under the care of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust at the time, which runs mental health services in the city.

A spokesman for the trust said: "We are aware of an incident involving a service user on June 20, 2019 and have been conducting an ongoing review into the circumstances leading up to it alongside colleagues from the Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

"We are unable to comment about individual patients because of rules governing patient confidentiality."

The man was first reported missing in the middle of May, and was described by Merseyside Police as partially sighted.
