Man facing trial after armed police find two guns, a silencer and ammo

A man arrested when armed police discovered a weapons arsenal in Bootle is set to stand trial.

Officers seized two guns, a silencer and ammunition when they raided a building in Bedford Road on March 28 this year.

An Austrian semi-automatic pistol and an Italian revolver were part of the haul, which was recovered shortly after 5.10pm.

More than a dozen police vehicles attended the scene, as an armed containment was set up and roads put in lockdown.

Jack Quinton, 25, of Caspian Place, Bootle, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, via video link from Walton prison.

Quinton, with ginger hair and beard, spoke only to confirm his personal details and enter his pleas to the charges.

He pleaded not guilty to possessing a Castelli of Brescia 1913 Revolver, and possessing it with intent to endanger life.

Quinton denied possessing a Glock self-loading 9mm pistol, and possessing the same weapon with intent to endanger life.

He also denied possessing "a sound moderator" which was "designed or adapted to diminish the sound of a weapon on firing".

Quinton denied two counts of possessing ammunition without a certificate, relating to .44 Russian and 9mm x 19mm ammunition.

Nicola Daley, prosecuting, said a trial, estimated to last two to three days, could be held on the week of March 2 next year.

Judge Rachel Smith remanded Quinton in custody until his trial.

Speaking at the time of the raid, a resident said they saw police dogs, armed officers and at least 15 or 16 police cars.

They said the force had cordoned off Bedford Road, Wadham Road, and stopped all traffic in both directions coming from Stanley Road.
