Man faces multiple charges over baby girl's death

Police allege the baby girl suffered life-threatening injuries in this house at Waterford West, south of Brisbane.

Police have charged a 37-year-old man with a number of offences, including child cruelty, over the death of a four-month-old girl in late November.

The baby girl was taken to the Logan Hospital, south of Brisbane, suffering life-threatening injuries.

She was then transferred to the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition, but died the following afternoon.

The man from Waterford West, south of Brisbane, has been charged with six counts of leaving a child unattended and one count of child cruelty.

Police charged 35-year-old Sandra Leigh Houston from Waterford West with murder on Monday and have alleged the baby suffered life-threatening injuries at Ms Houston's home.

Ms Houston's lawyer Robert Burns said outside court on Tuesday that she was the child's aunt and guardian and that the girl's mother had died a few months ago.

The man is due to face the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 14.
