Suspect named after Encrochat police swoop

A 41-year-old man was remanded in custody today after being charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis as part of the ongoing Encrochat investigation.

Mark Stephen Edwards, 41, from Princes Avenue in Eastham had been arrested at his home yesterday, July 29 and taken into custody.

He was charged as part of Operation Venetic, a nationwide investigation centring on the use of Encrochat.

Appearing at Wirral Magistrates Court today, Edwards was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on August 27.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We have charged a 41-year-old Wirral man with conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs.

"Mark Stephen Edwards, of Princes Avenue, Eastham, was arrested at his home address yesterday.

"He was charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis and was remanded into custody to appear at Wirral adult remand court today, Friday 30th July.

"The charges form another part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat."
