A Victorian man charged with murdering a 73-year-old woman has faced court.

Trent Bird, charged with murdering Lorraine Bird at Hedley, in the state's southeast in August 2020, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Bird will next face court on May 26.
