Man faces court over German backpacker's stabbing death

A string of backpacker hostels are located near Brisbane's Roma Street train station.

A 33-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the stabbing murder of a German tourist in Brisbane last week.

Police said Dominik Schulze and a friend were walking on Milton Road near backpacker hostels on Friday morning after a night out, when a man in a vehicle almost hit them.

It was alleged an argument broke out and Mr Schulze suffered stab wounds to his back and abdomen, before the car fled the scene.

Jamie Saxon briefly appeared before the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning and the case was adjourned until November.

His family was in court but did not speak to the media.

The alleged incident shocked backpackers staying nearby, who said they were now concerned about their safety.
