Man faces court over fatal Vic shooting

A man has faced court after Richard Paul Devlin was shot dead outside his home in regional Victoria. (AAP)

A man has faced court in regional Victoria charged over a shooting murder.

Andrew Robert Paterson, 58, was charged on Friday over the death of Richard Paul Devlin, who was shot outside his home in Numurkah, near Shepparton, on Thursday night.

Paterson faced Shepparton Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon, hours after being charged with murder.

The men were known to each other.

The court heard Paterson, from Caniambo, has depression and requires prescription medication.

Prosecutors were asked to outline the circumstances of Paterson's alleged offending, but were unable to give information beyond the fact he was accused of killing Mr Devlin at Numurkah.

Mr Devlin, 55, was found injured outside his home after reported gunshot, and died at the scene.
