Man faces attempted murder trial over 'street fight'

A man is accused of trying to murder another man in an alleged street fight.

Neil Farrington, 51, was left fighting for his life after the incident in Kirkby late on Monday, May 17 this year.

Police said they were called to Kirkby Row in Westvale after receiving reports of "two men fighting" at around 11.25pm.

Witnesses described distressing scenes and one man said he wanted to intervene, but was concerned that he might have been hurt.

Mr Farrington was taken to hospital having suffered serious head injuries.

He was described by Merseyside Police at the time as being in a "critical but stable condition".

Neil Badrock, 27, of Kenbury Close, Kirkby, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday afternoon via video link from HMP Altcourse.

Badrock, with short dark hair and wearing a grey top, spoke only to confirm his personal details and to enter his pleas.

He pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and also denied an alternative charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Nicola Daley, defending, requested a psychiatric report on behalf of her client.

Ian Harris, prosecuting, said a trial would be estimated to last five to seven days.

Judge Brian Cummings, QC, fixed the trial for January 31 next year.
