Man faces assault charge over alleged attack outside Adelaide mosque

The worshipper had been at the mosque for evening prayers.

A man has been arrested over an assault on a worshipper outside an Adelaide mosque last month, police have said.

Sturt CIB detectives went to a house at Reynella in the southern suburbs on Tuesday evening and arrested a 35-year-old man.

He has been charged with assault causing harm and granted police bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court in early March.

Police said the alleged offence happened on the evening of December 22 when the worshipper was standing outside the mosque in Marion Road.

A man approached and struck up a conversation before the victim sustained facial injuries, police alleged.

Paramedics treated the worshipper at the scene.

Senior Constable Kylie Simpson said information from the public helped police make the arrest.

"Thanks to social media, we put [an] image out and the 35-year-old man from Reynella has been arrested and charged … so thanks to the public for having a look and coming through with some information," she said.

Police said their investigation had determined the matter did not seem to be racially motivated.
