Man extradited from Queensland over alleged attempted robbery

A man will appear in court today after being extradited from Queensland on an outstanding warrant relating to an alleged attempted armed robbery last year.

In December, officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District commenced an investigation into the attempted armed robbery of a business in December 2019.

Police will allege in court that about 7.10pm on Friday, December 27, a man entered a petrol station on Adelaide Street and approached the counter threatening staff with what appeared to be a firearm and demanding cash and cigarettes.

Following extensive inquiries, it was established the man was living interstate and assistance was sought from Queensland Police Service.

On Monday, a 23-year-old man was arrested by officers from Queensland Police at a unit on Nolan Street, Sabrina.

Investigators applied for and were granted the man's an extradition to NSW at Mackay Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The man was escorted by NSW Police officers to Raymond Terrace Police Station on Wednesday, where he was charged attempted robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, armed with intent commit indictable offence and possess unauthorised firearm.

He was refused bail to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court Thursday.
