Man explains why he put caravan at Bobbers Mill junction amid residents' frustrations

'Frustrated' residents have expressed their anger over two large caravans that have caused congestion in a residential parking area.

The community in Bobbers Mill have raised concerns over what they have described as "dangerously parked" vehicles on the junction between Freiston Street and Grundy street.

Nottinghamshire Live went to the scene to discover that one of the caravans was parked on the pavement, blocking pedestrian access near the junction on Thursday (June 10).

The second one was left in the car park, just next to a van.

Online seller Imram Sheikh, 35, has lived in the area for three years and said: "This has been going on for years - it is too much.

"It is stressful to find a parking space here because of that.

"We asked them to move them but they will not listen to us.

"Sometimes residents do not have space to park their cars because of them - it is a difficult situation.

Other residents said the junction is 'dangerous' for pedestrians as they have to go round the caravan and walk on the road instead.

Picker Nathan Green, who has been living in the area for nine years, said: "It is dangerous for the children who come back from school, and there are also a couple of women who push prams with babies - it is difficult for them.

"They have been here for days, and days and I do not know when they are going to leave."

The 40-year-old added: "The idea is to have enough space for us to go through the junction.

"It should be parked in another way."

Tyronne Francis, a business travel consultant and resident of the area, 35, added: "It does not bother me because I do not have a car at the moment.

"I guess that once I will have one I would probably know how it feels.

"It is a bit annoying to be honest - but I do not know if we can do anything about it."

The owner of one of the caravans Lucian Covaci, has replied to residents' concerns.

The 30-year-old spoke in Romanian to Nottinghamshire Live, saying that he is using the caravans for storage and he plans to leave the country in a few days.

Mr Covaci is a seasonal worker at the Bakkavor Group in Newark - meaning that he comes to the UK to work for three months, and then he returns to his home-country for an "undetermined" period of time.

He said he bought the caravans two months ago to store furniture for his new house in Romania.

He added: "One of the caravans is mine and the other one belongs to my brother-in-law.

"We thought it would be a good idea to store furniture and other personal belongings in the caravans to transport them back home.

"We initially parked them on the street, just in front of our houses on Bobbers Mill road, but we have been told by the council to move them because they damage the road.

"We will leave in a few days - we are sorry for the inconvenience and are looking to find a better way to park them."
