Man escapes from police custody during Bronzeville traffic stop

A man escaped from police custody Wednesday in Bronzeville after officers pulled over his vehicle and found a weapon.

Officers conducted a traffic stop about 9 p.m. in the 3600 block of South Indiana Avenue and detained the 39-year-old while they searched the car, Chicago police said.

They found a weapon in the rear of the vehicle, where the man had been seated, police said. He then escaped from their custody and went missing.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
