Man escaped from police by climbing out of window while being treated at Wigan hospital

A man escaped from police custody by climbing out of a window at a Wigan hospital.

The 36-year-old fled while being treated at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary on Wigan Lane.

Police say officers were called to the hospital at 9.30pm on Saturday to reports that the man had escaped.

However, despite his attempts to flee, the man was quickly recaptured.

A spokesperson for GMP said he had been arrested again on suspicion of escaping from custody.

They said: "Officers received a call around 9.30pm on Saturday, February 20 that a 36-year-old man had absconded from lawful custody whilst at hospital.

"The male was safely detained soon afterwards and further arrested on suspicion of escaping lawful custody.

"He remains in custody."

Anyone with information on non-urgent criminal matters in Wigan should contact GMP on 101.
