Man ends life in lock-up, probe ordered

BATHINDA: Bathinda police have initiated department inquiry against cops of Nathana police station in a case of suicide by a theft accused. The inquiry has been marked against sub-inspector Sukhwinder Singh, SHO of the police station, ASI Gurdev Singh and head constable Nirmal Singh.

Simranjit Singh, 26, a resident of Bathinda, was arrested in a theft case on Tuesday. He was kept in the police lock-up where he allegedly committed suicide by hanging.

Bathinda senior superintendent of police Amneet Kondal said taking the negligence of the cops as a serious act, departmental action has been taken against the cops. The chief judicial magistrate has been requested to get the matter probed and judicial magistrate Ist class (JMIC) is probing the matter. Two cops were suspensde and an inquiry initiated against SHO. The commandant, home guards, will probe against home guard Sukhwinder Singh. tnn
