Man dumps Christmas tree only to find it on his doorstep the next day

There are many legitimate ways to get rid of your tree after Christmas, and flytipping it is definitely not the way to go - as one man found out when he awoke the day after discarding his tree to discover it back on his doorstep.

Sam Lounds revealed he was walking his dog in Central Park, Plymouth, when he spotted a man "carrying a Christmas tree over his shoulder".

Sam had an "inkling" something was amiss and moments later the man dumped the Christmas tree and walked off, report Plymouth Live.

So Sam, aware the act was illegal,  picked up the tree and followed the flytipper home.

He then left the discarded tree on the man's doorstep along with a note.

Sam said he was particularly disappointed in the man's actions when he heard the local council had been collecting Christmas trees from various collection points earlier in the month.

After watching the man ditch the tree, Sam decided to return it to him to allow him to "do the right thing" and dispose of it properly, leaving the hilarious note explaining his actions.

"I just wanted to do a good deed. I expect people to do the right thing," Sam said.

The note said: "Dear random human, as you are now aware, whilst I walked my dogs at 22:15 last night, I noticed you walking your Christmas tree.

"My dogs were on leads, but your tree wasn't, which must of lead it to your tragic loss. [sic]

"But, alas, fortunately I located it shivering in the park, abandoned, sad.

"Thankfully having recorded you doing this, I followed and found you return home.

"Rather than reporting you for a criminal offence/conviction with said evidence, I thought I would give you a chance to do right."
