Man 'dumps BMW in river because he wanted his dad to buy him a Jaguar'

A man has allegedly dumped his BMW into a river in a fit of anger after his father refused to buy him a Jaguar.

The 22-year-old man, known as Akash, from Yamuna Nagar, India, reportedly filmed the moment he pushed the BMW 3 series into fast-moving waters then forwarded it to his parents, according to Times of India .

Footage taken by other residents show the white saloon slowly sinking into the murky waters.

Local police were alerted and sent a team of crew including divers and villagers to try and pull up the car.

Rescuers spent several hours trying to pull up the car using a crane to remove it from the Western Yamuna Canal.

Akash managed to get out before the car plunged into the river, a source claimed.

Mukesh Kumar, a station house officer for Chhachhrauli Police, said no case has been registered but the man's father claimed his son has certain mental health issues, it is reported.

Mr Kumar said: "Akahs was demanding for a Jaguar car from his father, but when his father failed to buy him one, he threw away his BMW in a fit of anger.

"His family had sold the (Toyota) Innova they had received from his in-laws to buy him the BMW."

It is understood the BMW 3 series was bought a few months ago and cost about Rs 45.20 lakh (£52,000).

Akash's father, Sanjeev Kumar, told Times of India that his son did not ask for a Jaguar and said Akash drove into the canal while trying to avoid hitting an antelope on the road.

Mr Kumar, who owns about 25 acres of agricultural land, said: "We have two cars, a BMW and a Swift.

"My son never demanded a Jaguar car."
