Man dumps bike and flees in front of police during weapons bust

A man fled after dumping a suspected stolen mountain bike in front of police who also recovered a lock knife and knuckle duster hidden in a tree during a blitz in Speke.

Today Merseyside Police released images of the abandoned Giant mountain bike as well as the seized weapons and a mobile phone discovered when Matrix disruption officers carried out a search of open land in Speke.

Police said the searches of Dam Wood yesterday followed "community intelligence" and were part of its "ongoing disruption activity".

Police said a mobile phone was also recovered and as part of the search a lock knife and knuckle duster were found "secreted at the base of a tree".

Liverpool community Superintendent Diane Pownall said: “We will always act on intelligence on where criminals are storing weapons and drugs. I would continue to encourage our local communities to come forward if they have information. Removing dangerous weapons and disrupting potential criminal activity is important to ensure that all law abiding people feel safe in their own communities.”
