Man due to appear in court following Manchester Victoria station New Year's Eve incident

A man is due to appear in court following an at Manchester Victoria train station on New Year's Eve.

Mahdi Mohamud, from Cheetham Hill, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and a terror offence related to possession of a document useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

The 25-year-old was arrested after a couple, aged in their 50s, were stabbed at around 9pm on January 31.

British Transport Police (BTP) Sergeant Lee Valentine was stabbed in the shoulder.

Mohamud is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later today (Tuesday).

The couple who were injured suffered very serious but not life-threatening injuries.
