A man has been charged over alleged possession and distribution of child sexual abuse footage following a nearly two-year long probe.

Detectives arrested a suspect, in his 30s, on Monday morning as part of an investigation which began in September 2018.

He was being detained at Dublin's Irishtown Garda Station on suspicion of allegedly possessing and distributing underage sexual abuse material on "a number of occasions" between December 2017 and July 2020.

The man is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon, Tuesday, charged in connection with the probe.
