Man due in court after allegedly kicking Durham police officer in the head

A man is set to appear in court after allegedly kicking the police officer who was trying to arrest him.

At around midnight on Friday night, police received a report of an alleged disqualified driver driving a van while intoxicated in County Durham.

Officers stopped a vehicle in Sacriston and a man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and driving without a licence.

He was also further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker after allegedly kicking the arresting officer in the head.

The man is now due to appear at Magistrates' Court next month charged with a number of offences.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "40-year-old Mark Youll, of Fynway, Sacriston, was charged on Saturday with drink driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and failing to provide an evidential sample of breath.

"He will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on September 8."
