Man drowns trying to copy iconic Titanic flying pose with girlfriend

A man tragically drowned as he tried to copy the iconic flying pose in the Titanic movie with his girlfriend.

Furkan Ciftci and girlfriend Mine Dinar, both aged 23, tumbled over into the sea in, Izmit, Turkey, after trying to create the iconic Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet pose.

The couple, who had been drinking alcohol on a fishing trip, chose the edge of the pier for the perfect picture but tragedy struck when both of them fell into the sea, Daily Star reported.

Furkan and Mine reportedly crossed a security chain to pose on the edge of the pier, with the pair falling into the water soon after their attempt at recreating the iconic scene from the James Cameron-directed feature.

As the couple were about to copy the "King of the World" pose from the Oscar-winning feature film, their imitation went tragically wrong, with Ciftci drowning when the pair fell off the pier.

The incident prompted local fisherman rush to the couple's aid as the pair fell into the sea - with one fisherman rescuing Mine after she grabbed onto the end of a fishing rod.

She was pulled to safety, but boyfriend Ciftci sadly disappeared under the waves, with emergency services called to the scene to search for the 23-year-old.

Ciftci's body was pulled out of the ocean by a diving team two hours after the ordeal as Mine was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Mine told police she and her partner thought it would have been funny to recreate the "Titanic pose". The couple had crossed the chain to stand on the edge of the pier when they sadly lost their balance.

The couple's final moments together were captured on CCTV as they were seen setting up chairs on the pier ready to fish.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with Ciftci's body is set to undergo an autopsy before his funeral takes place.
